Hereford based Level Peaks Associates have now successfully delivered the first consignment of 250,000 of the new lightweight EMAG for the British Army’s SA80 A2 rifle. As part of the UK MoD’s ongoing efforts to reduce the weight carried by the Infantry soldier, the introduction of the new EMAG is a significant step. It also offers a number of new features that enhance reliability, durability and functionality.
Level Peaks Associates won the contract to exclusively supply the UK MoD with the MagLevel™ Magpul EMAG™ (Export Magazine) in September 2010. EMAG is a lightweight polymer 30-round 5.56 NATO/.223 Remington magazine for NATO-pattern rifles (M4/C8, M16/C7, SA80, HK 416, etc.). EMAG is designed to provide enhanced reliability, functionality, and durability over standard aluminium and steel magazines through the introduction of a slimmer profile, a viewing window with round counter and an integrated impact and dust cover. Level Peaks Associates were also able to supply the EMAG as a rapidly manufactured and cost effective alternative to in-service metal magazines, offering substantial life cycle cost savings and placing a reduced logistic burden on the Operation HERRICK supply chain.
Agility in the infantry is of increasing concern to the UK MoD as both protection and firepower increments add additional weight to the infantry burden. EMAG is over 40% lighter than the in service steel magazine and represents over a 1kg reduction to combat loads, significantly contributing to the overall target.
Polymer Magazines do not suffer from rust degradation, crushing damage or dust and sand ingress The polymer does not clog (meaning that troops need not clean every round before loading them into the magazine). This potentially reduces the time taken to reload magazines in dust and sand environments.
The polymer magazines are manufactured in the USA by Magpul, imported and delivered by Level Peaks Associates.

MAGAZINE FEATURES:
SLIM-LINE BODY PROFILE: To enhance compatibility with double and triple magazine pouches, the EMAG™ features a slim, rib-less, anti-snag profile. Front-to-back and side-to-side width and thickness have been adjusted to ensure compatibility with as many weapons as possible, including the HK416, non-Colt spec AR15 rifles and the FN SCAR.
HIGH VISIBILITY ROUND INDICATOR: For easier and more accurate identification of loaded round count via MagLevel™ Round Indicator System, the stainless steel magazine spring is now coated with milspec black oxide (MIL-DTL-13924D) and the indicator coil painted with high visibility fluorescent orange. Numerical indicators have been added to identify 5, 15 and 25 loaded rounds.
IMPACT/DUST COVER STORAGE: The EMAG™ Impact/Dust Cover can be snapped on the bottom of the magazine body for storage when not in use.
LARGE MAGLEVEL™ WINDOW: Combined with enhanced high visibility round indicator spring, the large single-side MagLevel™ window allows for fast/accurate round count identification which although fairly redundant functionality in the field it is an excellent addition when training – learning to round count is invaluable in a fire fight.
